I just got a 1983 Honda MAGNA V45, with 1600 original miles. Stored since 1993. The only real problem I’ve found is sticky slides in the carbs. Took them off and cleaned but still a little sticky. Any good ideas on ways to free them up with taking them back off? I’ve added Gum out to the gas and am running it thru. ANy help would be appreciated,
Al

Any luck getting this fixed?
Be very careful if the slides appear to be coated gold or grey, they may be anodized and if you polish them you may remove the protective coating and even distort them. Careful cleaning is the key, especially around the air passages that vent the top diaphragm and the overlap area at the bottom of the bore. You don’t say what is sticking. I assume you mean there is either a bad hesitation or one or more doesn’t close properly. Either way, clean ‘em and synch ‘em and have fun.
Last thing – check out my new post about the CL200’s new float. I think you may be having the same issue – just a worn out part that no longer moves freely and then sticks.
OK from the sounds of it, I need to take them off and give them a good cleaning, and polishing. Will let you know how ot works, thanks,
This may be off the wall too (I am not familiar with the carbs on that bike) but another biker friend of mine thought that on that bike, the carbs were extremely sensitive to friction in the slides – so really polishing the metal and making it as smooth as possible could help. Just a thought.
Sounds reasonal, I’ll give that a try
Those are vacuum slides, right? One of my friends suggested that the diphragm may be worn.
Thanx, I’ll try that
