like to sell) it has 9k miles runs, but need a few thing to make it nice. I have the sidecovers, but they are rough and will need repainted. PS. keep me in the loop on the ride in the spring.

New Parts In The Parts Box

October 31st, 2009

CB650 Ignition SwitchHonda Bubba has offered new parts for the community parts box….

Ok I have 3 parts up for grabs to anyone that can use the. all are off of a 1980 CB650 basket case that is long gone.
1. Throttle cable, used but in working condition.
2. Key ignition switch with key, looks brand new.
3. I don’t know what it’s called, but I think it’s like a car distributor, Ignition timing spark thingy, anyways, it came from the right side of the motor, it bolts to the crankshaft end.
Well, other than that I know the motor was a Honda SOHC CB650

Check out the community parts box HERE.  If you have anything to add, please let me know.  Thasnk Honda Bubba!

Ok guys..Does your other half ride too? Take interest in your 2 wheel sickness? Support your wallet draining hobby?   Show & tell I guess..

Thank God mine does!   She probably knows more about Honda CBX’s than a lot of guys! Which is kinda cool!  My fault I guess!

Let the Fun Begin

Garden Shed turned Workshop
Garden Shed turned Workshop

I don’t have a garage but I do have a rather large garden shed that is bigger, inside, than some bedrooms I’ve had. It should be easy to heat, when I need to but it’ll only hold one bike. The other 79 750 will be going over to my Landlady’s garage which is a big double in which she only uses 1/2 for her new pickup.

cracked rubbers
cracked rubbers

First thing I did was remove the rear tire as I soon realized, after seeing all the oil and crud built up everywhere, that I probablly should take it down to the frame for cleaning and repainting. The brake pads are half worn and will be replaced and, as you can see, the rubbers are cracked from hard riding. It’s going to be a big job but I’m planning on buying some new parts for the other 79, ( like handle bar switch housings etc.), that I can swap over to this one. This bikes been left, uncoverd, outside and needs em…

1989 GSX-R: Down to business

October 30th, 2009

The CL200 is pretty much where it’s going to get for the season…there is one problem left with the carbs leaking and the rest is cosmetic…so pretty much it’s time to start sinking more money into it.

So, I decided that rather than standing around in my garage looking at the GSX-R and sighing thinking about what I got myself into, it was time to get down to business.  This is that magical time when you first start on a bike project and you’re shaking your head, knowing that it would have been cheaper in the long run to buy something that isn’t a basket case.  But, where’s the fun in that?

1989 GSX-R750

It’s late, so I’m keeping this brief….I have a lot more pictures.  Below is one of the two frozen and rusty front calipers.  I took them off so I can start the rebuild of them over the cold months.

1989 GSX-R750 Frozen Caliper

Another picture below is of the carbs…smelling strongly of rotten gas.  One of them (at least) is also frozen.  You can see a ton of corrosion holding the valve closed.  No problem…another good project for the winter.

GSX-R750 carburetors

The big plan is to fix all of the electrical issues, the calipers, and the carburetors over the winter.  Hopefully in the spring I’ll be ready to start addressing whatever may be wrong with the engine.

Douchiest Biker Contest Entry

October 28th, 2009

From hondacrguy:

douchiest biker huh? a few years back i was without 4 wheel transport and broke. i came across a 84 virago 1000, with a “sweet” pearl white paint, for 1200 bucks. i bought it in march and hit the road. i have ridden bikes my whole life but this was my first japanese harley clone. 2 449cc cyl. i hated that bike. one cylinder would crap out and pop back on at random, usually by some hot chick, forcing me to hold on really tight cus thats a kick in the ass when half your motorcycle turns off and on.  still i was broke it got me to work most times and what the hell i was riding full time.i would pass these harley doctors with their “roeder harley” or knock off sturgis standard black t’s 250 dollar harley boots and gay fringe on their 08 raod king trying to act like jessie james. never did i get the “wave”. no respect for a real rider in work boots and a lunch box strapped to the seat. im my opinion those weekend warriors with their 25000 bikes all deserve to win the douchiest rider award. live to ride ride to live only keep it real man. harley, honda or ducati
ride to ride

I gotta say, I usually skip the wave and go for the nod…I would rather hold on with both hands than look cool.  Most of those with $25K bikes seem to have a slightly different slogan of “live to ride, ride to be noticed.”  (Goldwings excluded because they’re built for an entirely different purpose).

I love your story…it definately paints a picture of a real biker.  You mean you didn’t buy a pair of $400 saddlebags to hold your lunch?

Hi my name is Mike
Thanks for the new site. Motorcycles are my life’s blood.
I restore Mostly Antique Motorcycles. Indians, Harleys, and anything with two, or three  wheels.  To me the vintage bikes are late model. On the antique side I’m just finishing a 1947 Chief. Earlier this summer a 1959 Harley Pan. And so on. On the vintage i have been working on A 1977
Honda 750, Extended forks, Black with ghost flames. A 1977 Goldwing, and a 1974 Honda 750 that I have been fitting up with Harley style Sheet metal Hd 45 tanks, skirted fenders, and a police solo seat. This one will be pretty cool, 750 cc’s convert to 45 cubic inches.  Soon as I can figure out how to post pics here I will.

Thanks

Nak

October 28th, 2009

Hi, fellow vintage bike enthusiasts. I’ve just started getting into the vintage bike thing this past year and I’m hooked!!! I love the old smaller hondas. I currently have 3 1972 scrambler 350′s. 1 is very nice and the other 2 are fair to good, just need a little work to make them nice as well. I also have a 1973 CB 350 that was a great find, only 2,700 miles and in a heated garage all it’s life. Just picked up a 1971 CT 70 that runs and has a title, but is in poor shape. Got the motor out of it and almost ready to sandblast and paint. I have the original paint code and I’m ordering all the original decals. I also picked up a 1977 Suzuki GS 550 it’s in good condition and runs great, but I’m just not into it like the Honda’s. So the GS is for sale if anyone is interested, I’m also considering selling 1 of the unfinished Scramblers. If anyone is interested let me know and I can get pics. to you and more detailed info. Get out and ride while you can, the season is almost over !!
