CL200: The G.D. Gas Is Still Leaking

October 10th, 2009 by BT Leave a reply »

1974 Honda CL200 Carbs still leaking gasThis is starting to really piss me off.  Does anyone know what would cause fuel to constantly drip out of the overflow tubes on the carbs?

I mean, I know it’s because (1) the petcock needs a rebuild and is not stopping the flow of fuel and (2) the floats are obviously not doing their job and stopping the fuel.

I’ve ben up the metal tabs in order to push the needle valves higher sooner, but it seems to not make a difference.  Could my valves just be worn?  It’s doing this on both carbs.

By the way, the picture above is my work around for this problem so that my garage isn’t an enormous fire hazard.  I looped a hose between the two petcock outlets and then let the carbs drain back into an empty bottle.

I’ve read that before, and believe it, but just don’t understand how a cracked hose on the outside of the carb can cause it to leak. Does it create some sort of vacuum or something?

I had the same problem a while back on a CM400.I changed the set and the needle and the same problem.I found that the over flow tube was split.changed the bowl and end of problem.Check the tube,IT GAVE ME FITS!!!

NEEDLES WARN, SOUNDS AS IF THEY NEED REBUILT ALONG WITH THE PEP COCK, THE PEP SHOULD STOP THE FLOW OF GAS FOR SURE, THATS WERE I WOULD START. FOR A FAST FIX CLAMP THE FULE LINE WITH VISE GRIP. VERY DANGERUS HAVEING GAS FUMES AROUND.

Thanks for your advice. I think in a month or so when I have some money I’m just going to bring the carbs to you for the ultra rebuild service that you talk about on your web site. The one that leaks more just got a new float.
