Other 79, on the right, is going 2 B rebuilt now...

I bought the other 79 750 as a parts bike but evrything was there, including title, so I’m going to bring her up to speed also. She’s got more rust but I’m going to do a strip down to the frame on this one. Total investment, so far, $225…

I used the headlight assembly and turn signals for the 79 10th Annv. bike because I removed the Vetter faring. I’ve already stripped down the handle bars and removed back wheel. Valve cover gaskets leaked oil everywhere so I’ve got quite an oily mess to clean up…. more L8R…

New Bike Guages

October 25th, 2009

This may sound stupid and trivial, but almost all of the new model cruisers drive me nuts with their lack of a tachometer and the trendy placement of the speedometer on the gas tank.

My Vulcan is one such model.  It’s distracting to have to look down at the tank to see my speed, and I just like having a tach.

I think the best thing is exactly what most of the older imports have - a  speedometer and tachometer  mounted in front of the handlebars where they’re easy to read.

Newest Temptation

October 25th, 2009

On my way back from activities with the kids, I decided to stop by State 8 and take a look around.

I’ve never been into sports bikes, but ever since I bought that GSX-R I’ve been seeing them in a different light.  I love all of these new street fighter/naked bike models and the Suzuki SV650S really caught my eye.    It’s more of a sport cruiser and the riding position is extremely comfortable.

Anyway, they had a used 2007 model going cheap cheap cheap.  I was so tempted to trade in the Vulcan 500.  Luckily, self control set in before I left and I went home without any need to kiss my wife’s ass for forgiveness!

Reminder about the douchiest biker contest

October 23rd, 2009

Hi everyone.  Since we have so many new members again this week (112 in all), I wanted to bring up the Douchiest Biker Contest again.

We have two entries so far.  Details of the contest can be found HERE

In a couple weeks I will find a way that everyone can vote.  By the way – don’t forget to add something to the Partx Box if you’re able to.

Thanks to everyone again.     Brian

GSX-R Indecision

October 23rd, 2009

I’m at a crossroads with my 1989 GSX-R.  I’m thinking about putting up an ad to see if someone wants to trade for an older Honda/Yamaha/Kawasaki.

Mentally, it scares the crap out of me since it was not only a fast bike from the factory, but is now a retired racing bike and will be scary fast once it’s running again.  On the other hand, just looking at it and thinking about the potential that it has is very exciting.

I guess I could de-tune it and try to get it back to factory specs….but that could be a ton of money.

Any suggestions?  Should I just try to trade it for something more civil?

Saying a quick “Hi” to all, from up here in Michigan..The site looks like it’s heading in a nice direction!  I’m an owner, rider, & restorer of one of Honda’s most iconic bikes..The CBX.This is a 1980 Marysville Ohio ”A” bike. I just sold my 1981 model, & I have a couple more in the works.  I love most all older bikes, & love seeing pics & hearing stories about them. I look forward to being a small part of this growing site!  Anyway, here’s one of mine . Enjoy!      Mike.

Starting cafe project

October 22nd, 2009

Hi It getting to the off season and ready to start a father/son cafe project.Actually Im shocked my boy opted to get rid of our vitage yam DT and get a RD400 over a crotchrocket. What I need is some good advice and guidence as to parts sites, trick stuff and even though it runs good and got D&D chambers Im looking for some one with vitage 2 stroke wizardry capable enough to make this wicked yet torky enough to be street friendly. Right now Im sure the jetting is off because of the chambers. I set aside my crotch rockets and my boy and I have been riding pre 80 yams for two years now. OH when life was simple right. Also want to convert my Yam TT5oo into Cafe. I know there are some vintage wizards out there, hope to hear from some. Im an old MXer so this cafe stuff is a new horizon that I want to share with my boy Thanks in advance guys. hope to post pics of build up if any one is interested.

1973 Honda CB750 K2

October 20th, 2009

Hope everyone out there is taking the opportunity to get out and ride their vintage iron while the weathers still nice. My bike is kinda unique being none of the previous owners made a cafe racer out of it. It was previously my dads back in 1988 before he passed away from cancer, he left it to a friend of his who said he’d give it to me when I was old enough. That guys widow called me in 2001 and said she had found an envelope with my name on it and the bikes title in it while going through her late husbands posessions and decided to call me and let me know she had found that and that I could come get the bike whenever. I picked it up and brought it home where I slowly rewired it where it had previously had a electrical meltdown. It finally started and idled for the first time in July of 2009. I took all the painted parts off, brought them into where I work and striped and powdercoated them. Then I made a custom exhaust from what was left of the aftermarket pipes it had modafied it then brought it in and ceramakoted it. Recently added saddle bags, fork tool bag, new mirrors, highway pegs, and a maltese cross tail light. Origional never opened engine with only 35,000 miles. It’s taken a long time but I think even my father would smile if he seen it now.

One More Ride

October 20th, 2009

I was thinking, since it’s supposed to be so nice tommorrow, that I might ride down to Hocking Hills and check out the colors. Anyone care to join me? I know a lot of you have to work but I’m retired so I can… R.S.V.P. me and we’ll determine where to meet, ( depends on how many reply and where from). It may be our last time to ride before it gets to cold. Not bad right now with leather on… Let me know if you are interested. I’m taking camera to try and catch some Fall Colors, stop somewhere for lunch and ride back.
