Time Warp VMC

November 21st, 2009

Time Warp Vintage Motorcycle Club(http://www.timewarpvmc.org)  is a nice group of vintage bike enthusiasts that I found on the web.  They’re based in Knoxville Tennessee.

I’ve been thinking that with the upcoming riding season here in Ohio (unfortunately, it’s not coming anytime soon) it would be nice to actually get together with some of you for some riding….aside from the 100 mile ride I’m trying to plan.  I’m not sure what we would do with a formal club…but anyone who is interested give it some thought.

Sorry it took me so long to post something here.  I’ve been slammed with deadlines at work.

For Sale?

Look'n Good

Look'n Good

I was thinking about selling the 79 750 Annv. Edition bike for money for parts to fix up the 79 K so I put an add on Craigs list. Started out at $1200 and after no responses, lowered it to $1000 FIRM and got 2 emails. One never showed and the other wanted to barter. Here’s what he sent back:  ” just wondered would you take 500 cash, a riding mower a 1400 psi pressure washer and an air compressor. just another deal to throw out there”…. sent pics too and in the background of one pic was one bike and about 3 or 4 more covered up! Seems like there is always somebody out there looking for something for nothing. I’m not giving this bike away! If I wanted to do that I’de give it to Goodwill or some one here! I told the guy that I’ve seen these bikes going for 14 or 15 on craigs list and that I know it’s worth more than that. I’m not that desparate to sell. I’m gonna keep it, I guess, and just find another way to get parts during the winter unless I get a REASONABLE OFFER! Right?

GSX-R Carburetor Update

November 12th, 2009

1989 Suzuki GSX-R750 CarburetorsI haven’t had an opportunity to do much with the bikes lately, but I did start getting the carbs on the GSX-R taken apart.  I’m really hesitant to go too far until I get the shop manual for it…and at the moment all of my bike money is instead paying for daycare, swimming, dance, girl scouts, and every other activity for the kids.

Anyway, I managed to get three of the four bowls off.  The fourth has unfortunately turned into an opportunity to test out one of those tools guaranteed to remove stripped screws.

Toward the bottom of the picture, just below the fuel line, you can see the corrosion around the main jet on the last carburetor.  Other than that, these LOOK pretty clean, but I’m sure they’re not.

Does anyone know if you can just soak the entire rack of carbs in something for a few days to let the liquid penetrate all of the crevices prior to ultimate disassembly?  Acetone?  Too strong?  I think obviously I’d remove the vacuum seals and anything else that isn’t metal.  Any suggestions are much appreciated…I’m very much a newbie with engine parts, but I”m determined to quickly become knowledgable.

Found another add, ( wouldn’t upload ), Price in 1975 was $595.00 That was about what I was making a month back then. Back when you got your moneys worth, made less but your dollar bought more and a better quality product. Could buy a months worth of groceries to for about $100… and my rent was $150.00 a month… living cheap in Oklahoma… Man! A guy has one of these on Craigs List, right now, asking $4800.00. I think that,  “THAT’S TO MUCH!”

Trying to stay motivated….still

November 10th, 2009

Thanks for the posts and comments.  I’ve been trying to stay motivated.  I did get some good riding in over the weekend….took the CL200 to my ofice for winter storage.  In theory, as long as both running bikes are there I could just go for small rides at lunchtime…but I rarely leave the office once I ge there.

I’ve started digging into the GSX-R carbs…I’ll try to post some pictures tonight.

No Winter Yet

November 9th, 2009

I don’t know about you but I’ve been getting some riding time in lately. I even had to tighten the chain up some. It could stay like this the rest of the Winter, as far as I’m concerned!
Below is a pic of a bike that I was seriously thinking about buying… got beat out by a faster buyer though. He just wanted $400 for it… the seat was missing but I would have found one somewhere! Rats!!!!
