I haven't had a chance to work on them in the past couple weeks, but the vice grips have nowhere to grip. I'm going to try slotting the heads and try a bigger screwdriver...or try one of those tools for stripped screws. It's kind of funny - this bike was build very well and most of it has nice hex screws....except they still put crap screws on the carbs.

i had the same problems on my 86 vmax carbs when i broke them down.i used vise grips to break some of the screws loose(if there is enough of the head to get ahold of)I replaced all the phillips head screws on my carbs with SS Allen Head Cap Screws.they look better and and are easier to remove later down the road if needed.good luck.I love those older GSX-R's

I'm using the gallon carb cleaner, only from Autozone, same thing. My workbook says don't take the whole carb assembly apart so I'm having to dip my whole assembly too.

Napa auto parts has a carb cleaner, comes in a gallon can like paint. dose a great job.
Yes remove all rubber.
On the stuck screw,
#1. Get a dremmel, cut a slot for a straight screw driver. Then use an impact screw driver. or
#2. Try a new or good pair of vice grips. grip hard it some times is a one time deal.
good luck
