Found another add, ( wouldn’t upload ), Price in 1975 was $595.00 That was about what I was making a month back then. Back when you got your moneys worth, made less but your dollar bought more and a better quality product. Could buy a months worth of groceries to for about $100… and my rent was $150.00 a month… living cheap in Oklahoma… Man! A guy has one of these on Craigs List, right now, asking $4800.00. I think that,  “THAT’S TO MUCH!”

My Old 81 Ironhead

1981 H.D./AMF Sportster/Ironhead

1981 H.D./AMF Sportster/Ironhead

Bought this “basket case” for $2500, rode it on one cylinder 40+ miles, blowing smoke all the way, to a small M.C. mechanic I knew so he could do the top end. When he got it apart he said that the piston that was blowing smoke had a hole in it the size of a quarter! It was origionally black with a regular sporty tank but I went through it, painted the frame and had another friend of mine paint it with a two part custom epoxy paint. Used S&S carb and other misc parts to get her looking the way she did. Rode her to Daytona twice before selling,(for$4500), to move to Ohio from Fla. The main thing I hated about the bike was that it had an old generator system that never charged right and that valves needed adjusting constantly and after about 4 or 5000 miles, another top end… the rebuild took about 6 months and was a real learning experience but was easier to work on that I thought it would be as everything was S.A.E. and I got a lot of bolts and stuff from the hardware store…

Some excellent pics from scramblerzez:

I’m sending pics. of my 72 scrambler, my 73 CB 350 only 2,700 miles ( which I may sell) and another 72 scrambler 350 ( which I would
like to sell) it has 9k miles runs, but need a few thing to make it nice. I have the sidecovers, but they are rough and will need repainted. PS. keep me in the loop on the ride in the spring.

Garden Shed turned Workshop
Garden Shed turned Workshop

I don’t have a garage but I do have a rather large garden shed that is bigger, inside, than some bedrooms I’ve had. It should be easy to heat, when I need to but it’ll only hold one bike. The other 79 750 will be going over to my Landlady’s garage which is a big double in which she only uses 1/2 for her new pickup.

cracked rubbers
cracked rubbers

First thing I did was remove the rear tire as I soon realized, after seeing all the oil and crud built up everywhere, that I probablly should take it down to the frame for cleaning and repainting. The brake pads are half worn and will be replaced and, as you can see, the rubbers are cracked from hard riding. It’s going to be a big job but I’m planning on buying some new parts for the other 79, ( like handle bar switch housings etc.), that I can swap over to this one. This bikes been left, uncoverd, outside and needs em…

Hi my name is Mike
Thanks for the new site. Motorcycles are my life’s blood.
I restore Mostly Antique Motorcycles. Indians, Harleys, and anything with two, or three  wheels.  To me the vintage bikes are late model. On the antique side I’m just finishing a 1947 Chief. Earlier this summer a 1959 Harley Pan. And so on. On the vintage i have been working on A 1977
Honda 750, Extended forks, Black with ghost flames. A 1977 Goldwing, and a 1974 Honda 750 that I have been fitting up with Harley style Sheet metal Hd 45 tanks, skirted fenders, and a police solo seat. This one will be pretty cool, 750 cc’s convert to 45 cubic inches.  Soon as I can figure out how to post pics here I will.

Thanks

Nak

Hi, fellow vintage bike enthusiasts. I’ve just started getting into the vintage bike thing this past year and I’m hooked!!! I love the old smaller hondas. I currently have 3 1972 scrambler 350’s. 1 is very nice and the other 2 are fair to good, just need a little work to make them nice as well. I also have a 1973 CB 350 that was a great find, only 2,700 miles and in a heated garage all it’s life. Just picked up a 1971 CT 70 that runs and has a title, but is in poor shape. Got the motor out of it and almost ready to sandblast and paint. I have the original paint code and I’m ordering all the original decals. I also picked up a 1977 Suzuki GS 550 it’s in good condition and runs great, but I’m just not into it like the Honda’s. So the GS is for sale if anyone is interested, I’m also considering selling 1 of the unfinished Scramblers. If anyone is interested let me know and I can get pics. to you and more detailed info. Get out and ride while you can, the season is almost over !!
